Nigel is in his forties and suffered from
Ulcerative Colitis (a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease) for a number of
years before having his colon surgically removed. He had spent
nearly 25 years in the Royal Navy before leaving as a result of his
medical condition. He now runs his own business in Tavistock, Devon.
While he was very ill he was greatly supported by the National Association for Colitis and Crohn's disease (NACC) who are a national charity providing support for IBD sufferers and their families. As a result of his experiences he joined the NACC as a volunteer and is now the regional representative for the Southwest of England, is about to take over as the chairman of the NACC regional forum and is a national trustee for the charity.
Nigel is married with two boys, a dog, 2 cats, a hamster, several fish and a mother-in-law.
